🫵 EXERCISE: PRACTICAL SESSION ONE: General hypnosis script

AUDIO: General hypnosis session - experience it as the subject

Find a time and a place where you can be undisturbed, make yourself comfortable, and relax.

You will listen to the audio and can experience it as the subject. There is no need to think of anything at this stage as all of the elements will be explained to you in the next lecture.

DESCRIPTION: General hypnosis script

This is an excellent starting session as it covers most of the aspects that are common to all sessions. Relaxation, focus of attention, progressive suggestions and control for the subject experiencing it.

As such, it is very good for relaxation and reducing anxiety.

Induction: Progressive Relaxation

This is a general script - meaning it can be used with most people.

The only reasons why it might not be suitable for someone is the inclusion of suggestions of limb heaviness. If you are working with someone who is overweight, or who has mobility issues, then this script is best avoided.

Manipulation of distractions

This script is included in each session - in time you will learn to adapt it to the needs of each specific session. For now, use it exactly as it is.

The main consideration when manipulating distractions is that if the distraction bothers the practitioner, it will bother the subject.

Deepener: Countdown from 100 to 1

The subject is encouraged to simply count down from 100 in their own mind, getting more and more relaxed as they go. Therefore this script can also be used with most people.

Ego-strengthening: Short Ego-Strengthening

There should always be some ego-strengthening. This is a short version - as this is your first session. In practice, it is designed for use at the end of a long session perhaps when there isn't as much time remaining.

Awakening

This is the only awakening script you will need and, as it will not change, you should start trying to learn it by heart.

DEMONSTRATION: General hypnosis script

Each element is explained in detail

Each element of every script is explained in the videos in detail as to how it is used and why, so you understand the importance of placement and phraseology.

Some of the elements are common to all the scripts, for example the manipulation of distractions and the awakening. To avoid repetition, only new elements will be explained in each section.

Student experiences

Val's first hypnosis session

After Val hypnotised Ursula, she then worked with someone who had never been hypnotised before. His feedback about the session is really useful. The audio of it is below.

Feedback when learning is essential...

When you have listened to the audio you will notice the comments from the subject of the hypnosis talking about the sensations he experiences, and what he observed (such as the changes Val makes to her voice).

It is worth listening to, as his comments are very common to someone who has not been hypnotised before.
